Vaishno Devi is one of the most revered and visited pilgrimage sites in India. Millions of devotees flock to the shrine every year to seek the blessings of the Goddess. The shrine is located at an altitude of 5200 feet on the Trikuta mountain range in Jammu and Kashmir. The shrine is managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which provides various facilities and services to the pilgrims.
The pilgrims have to undertake a trek of about 12 km from the base camp at Katra to reach the holy cave where the Goddess resides. The trek can be done on foot, by ponies, palanquins or helicopters. The holy cave contains three natural rock formations called Pindis that represent the three forms of Vaishno Devi: Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. The pilgrims offer prayers and offerings to these Pindis and receive prasad from the priests.
The pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi is considered incomplete without visiting the temple of Bhairav Nath, who was beheaded by the Goddess for his misdeeds. The temple is located about 2 km from the holy cave at a higher altitude. It is believed that the Goddess granted him a boon that whoever visits her shrine must also visit his temple to get his blessings.
Vaishno Devi is a symbol of faith, devotion and power for millions of Hindus. She fulfills the wishes of her devotees and protects them from all evils. She is also known as Sherawali, Jyotawali, Pahadawali, Durga, Bhagvati and Jagdamba. She is the mother of all and the bestower of happiness and prosperity. 04f6b60f66
